Meet the Visionary Behind the Scenes

Twiggs Education Solutions has been founded after it’s owner retired from Umalusi to provide solutions to problems in education.

Has experience as a teacher, quality assurer, Monitoring and evaluation of examinations. The biggest problem he found was that teachers are not all confident in managing classroom assessment. He has developed courses to address the needs of teachers or anyone involved in assessment. At Umalusi he was also responsible for Standardisation and Resulting. Provided support to the DBE through statistical analysis comparing SBA marks with the written examination marks for the NSC, Research on Progressed learners. He also monitored the conduct of the NSC at schools (Department of Basic Education) and NATED and NCV courses at independent and Public FET Colleges  run by the Department of Higher Education.

In 2010 he presented a paper at the 36th International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) Conference in Bangkok entitled Classroom Assessment in South Africa – Where to from here. The status of Classroom assessment has not changed much since 2010 where it was found that there are huge differences between the School Based Assessment and the final Examination Results.  School Based Assessment in South Africa is still not a good indicator of learner performance in their final examinations. This was the start of the development of the courses “Classroom Assessment” and “Test Analysis for HODs, Subject Advisors and Principals” which was completed in 2016. These two courses have been endorsed by SACE. They are Classroom Assessment (15 CPTD points) and Test Analysis for HODs, Subject Advisors and Principals(10CPTD points)

Due to the fact that Blooms Taxonomy is such a good learning taxonomy to developing higher order thinking in the classroom,  it sparked the development of the course “Developing Problem Solving/Higher Order Thinking Skills For Corporates”.
